For a number of years, Fabricana has been very active
supplying costume fabrics for different dance schools
and skating clubs for competitions and exhibitions. We
are well equipped to supply large volumes and work very
hard to fill special orders in a timely and efficient
manner. We are always happy to mail out specific fabric
swatches to people all over Western Canada so that our
customers can co-ordinate their costume needs without
ever having to step into our stores. Below you will find
a list of fabrics that we carry that are specifically
related to dance and skating costumes. By no means is
this an exhaustive list, so please contact us if there
is something specific you are looking for that is not
listed.
Dancewear Basics
- Stretch Velvet
- One of the most popular fabrics for dance and skate
is our stretch velvet. It is available in a wide range
of deep jewel tones as well as vibrant brights and romantic
pastels. This is a 4 way stretch fabric which allows
for a wide range of comfort and movement, even with
the most fitted garments.
- Tie-Dyed Stretch Velvet
- To co-ordinate with our solid coloured stretch velvets,
we are also carrying a few tie-dyed stretch velvets,
which would be excellent for use as a contrast on a
costume or would be an effective costume on its own.
- “SONATA” Georgette
- To add to our co-ordinated group of brights we also
have a range of polyester georgette, which is excellent
for skirts, billowing sleeves or flounces.
- Stretch Mesh
- A fabric that appeals to a lot of our dance and skating
customers is our stretch mesh, which is excellent for
sheer coverage on arms, shoulders, on the back, or as
an inset on a close fitting body suit. It is a perfect
base on which to apply sequins, beads or rhinestones
that will beautifully set off a costume and make a sparkling
impression from a distance.
- Vichy Chiffon
- Available in many colours, this is the ideal fabric
when lightweight sheer coverage is required. It floats
as gently as a spring breeze, making it the perfect
choice for romantic costumes that have long flowing
skirts or flounces.
- Tulle and Netting
- Reserved mainly for Ballet, tulle and netting are
staples of dancewear. Tulle is much softer and finer
and ideal for an overlayer on a skirt. Netting is an
ideal support for those times when you need Volume!
Volume! Volume! Both are available in a wide range of
colours from pastels to brights.
- Organza
- Organza is much like chiffon except for its lack of
draping. Organza has much more body. If you need a sheer
fabric that will hold its shape, organza is the way
to go. It is available in a huge range of colours, textures
and levels of shine. Plain organza is how it sounds:
minimum shine, fairly smooth texture. Crystal Organza
has more shine and a smoother texture. Galaxy Organza
has maximum shine, a very smooth texture and is slightly
softer than the Plain or Crystal organza.
- Supplex with Lycra
- This is another dance and skating basic, but less
for performance and more for practice or warm-up. The
supplex fibre has excellent wicking ability that help
draw moisture away from the body so you feel dry and
warm. It is available in a smaller range of colours,
but makes excellent tights, bodysuits, or pullover tops.
Dancewear and Skating Novelties
It is difficult to describe all of the novelty fabrics
that we carry for dance and skating. We have quite a large
selection of hologram printed fabrics as well as many
stretch lycras and stretch velvets and velours that are
embellished with foil prints, glitter, or sequins. We
also have some stretch polyurethane laminated fabrics
for that shiny, ultra smooth (think “Cat Woman”)
look. If you let us know what colours you are interested
in, we can let you know what we think may work for you,
and, as mentioned above, we are always willing to send
of swatches for your perusal.
